loss

Three weeks after our wedding S's mother passed away.  She was 92 and had had a full life: married for 70 years to a man she was still in love with, lived to know her great-grandchildren and never lost her impish sense of humour.  We miss her.

reader, I married him

It was the best day of my life.  I know that's a cliche but I don't care.  I swear I started smiling as soon as I woke up and I didn't stop until I fell asleep.

Best. Day. Ever!

odd week, disjointed post

It's been quite a week, hasn't it?  I won't rehash as I know from reading all your posts that a lot has already been said.  Let me just put this out there and I'll leave the topic alone.  We went through the Brexit vote this year and so I know how it feels when half of your country does something so completely inexplicable, divisive, backward-looking and self-destructive.  Cold comfort though this may be - you guys can fix this in four years, and I have faith that you will.

And to add insult to injury, we lost Leonard Cohen today.  The world is a lot poorer this week...

I'm home sick today.  Well, I have been all week apart from a misguided two hours when I went to work yesterday.  Basically I was sent home and told not to darken the doors again until Monday.  Most of the time I've felt too ill (chest infection, nothing major) to do anything but Netflix and chills (see what I did there?) but today I am feeling perky.  And an email telling me I had a new comment on my last post galvanised me to come over and say hello.

Hello!  How are you all?  I have spent the past few months floating on clouds of bliss.  One of my friends told me to savour every moment of being engaged because it's a time like no other and, ever obedient, I have been.  I still haven't quite stopped staring goofily at my ring, but I have it down to once a week now.  In the months since getting engaged and now we have set a date, found our wedding venue, given our intention-to-marry notices, booked a registrar and I have found my dress.  Sometimes having a type A personality works in your favour :-)  S has met more of my friends and charmed them in his usual manner (eclectic interests, dry sense of humour, strange addiction to puns, encyclopaedic knowledge of London's history).

Oh, and I'm not giving you the finger, I'm showing off my engagement ring :-)

has it really been eight months?!

Hello again.

I'm a bit pants at this blog, aren't I?  I keep meaning to update, then I read all your posts and I decide that I don't have anything interesting to say and I wander off again.

I have something to tell you now, though.  S and I got engaged last month!

I am ridiculously happy.  I still look down at my (lovely, lovely) engagement ring (solitaire diamond on a rose gold band) and I can't quite believe it's really my hand.

We are getting hitched next June.  I honestly never thought I would be this happy :-)

dipping a toe

Hello!

I've been away for a while - I thought it was just a few months but turns out it was over a year.  Not sure where that time went.

How are you all?  I am trying to catch up with everyone but I think I neglected my blog for so long that links have broken or people have moved addresses.  If you are out there and still reading please drop in and say hello.  I have tea and cake...

Not a huge amount has happened in the past 15 months.  I've travelled a little (New Orleans, Philadelphia, Crete, various parts of England); been ill and recovered (long story involving breast lumps and surgeries); read a lot of books (major crime fiction kick while recovering from surgery) and lost a few members of my family (two uncles, one aunt).

S and I are still together, which is very lovely.  And I traded in my old car for a lovely shiny new one in October.

So that's me, dipping a toe back into bloggy waters :-)

#Microblog Mondays: reclaiming

I need to reclaim my blog and this seems like a good way to start...
Bullet points for the past couple of months:
  • I'm still grieving deeply for my beloved little cat
  • S and I got back together, after a lot of long conversations and compromise
  • Friends had babies, other friends are now pregnant
  • I started to peer into the abyss of depression so took myself off to the doctor and am now taking anti-depressants
  • But feeling hopeful that they will work soon

tea and ice cream

Thank you for your supportive comments on my last two posts.

My week has mainly been fuelled by endless cups of tea at work and falling face-first into tubs of ice cream at home. But last night I went to a concert and had a wonderful evening and today I feel much more positive about things.

I still have no idea what happened or what S was thinking, but I can either fret about it endlessly (my usual MO) or I can just accept that I may never know and move on.  I chose the latter!

Still - breaking up IS hard to do...
