seriously?

Yesterday A and I spent at home doing clean-up, helping neighbours, talking to the fire brigade and insurance assessors and building inspectors.  Although we were exhausted by nightfall, neither one of us could sleep, which turned out to be lucky because we were awake at half past midnight to hear the news.

It was almost 2.00am before we could get hold of A's parents and know that they, and their farmhouse, were still standing.  By 7.30am we knew that A's Christchurch relatives were accounted for, even though most have been evacuated from their city homes to A's parents' farm a couple of miles away.

I know that we have a LOT to be thankful for - we still have our home and the NZ section of our family safe - and I feel like such a whiny ingrate but nonetheless: seriously, universe?  Seriously?

    So scary - I can't believe the tragedy in Christchurch. I don't get it either!

    yes, that is definitely more than your fair share of acts-of-god in one 48 hour time period. Crazy. SO good to hear your family is all ok!

    yes mother nature appears to have the shits on at the minute - floods, cyclones, earthquakes, fires - you name it, the southern hemisphere namely oztralia and new zealand have had it this year.

    i'm glad to read that everyone in your family is safe and well - there are still 300 people currently missing and 75 confirmed deaths. so very very sad.

    I know offering another "I'm sorry" doesn't really cut it right now but please know I am thinking of you all and wishing I could truly do something to help.

    I am glad to hear that you and all the relatives are safe however....for goodness sake...you need a stinking break already!
