memory lapse

I stay away from social media on Mother's Day for reasons of self preservation. We all know that it is coming, thanks to commercial tv and advertising in shops, so it's pretty easy to remain unplugged on the fourth Sunday in Lent.
This year, however, I forgot that this Sunday was mother's day in the USA (and New Zealand, sorry ex-MIL) and blithely logged in to In Yer Face Book. I learnt a lot, largely that I will never know real love and that whatever I may do in life is irrelevant. Oh, and also that I buy a new pair of designer heels every month and go to the hairdresser every week. Basically, if I aggregated every post and meme, the result would be that I am a selfish, loveless (but well-shod) woman.
Lesson learned: remember to leave the interwebs alone for two days a year.

  1. *nod* I hadn't common sense at all..I went on Facebook, knowing it was mother's day- but that I thought I'd handle it... after clicking on "hide" for many times, I threw in the towel. A week should be sufficient, next year. What do you think, Illanare?

  2. That f-ing sucks. You'd see no Mother's Day posts on my FB timeline. I just couldn't do it. The day is too much bittersweet for me and I don't particular like the "holiday" of it. I am so sorry... so very sorry :(

  3. Oh yes. I have a lot of overseas friends on FB, and so always experience the UK Mother's Day - as a complete surprise. So I feel for you.

  4. Yeah... I definitely avoid Facebook on Mother's Day as well. A lot of my friends are pretty good about it - just a picture of them and their kids - but I've culled a lot of facebook friends in the past year, so I think that's why. I removed the ones who really irritated me ;) Just remember, you are valid and wonderful as you are!
